About

The House

Manner & Form is a house concerned with the standards that shape how we live among others and how we care for the things that surround us.

It exists to develop judgment, preserve useful inheritance, encourage better practice, and make or recommend things worthy of care.

The name

Manner & Form

The name describes two related fields of attention. Manner concerns how we conduct ourselves among other people. Form concerns the physical world we shape, choose, use and maintain. One asks how we ought to act; the other asks what is worth making, keeping and caring for.

Manner

Manner concerns conduct among other people: consideration, hospitality, correspondence, and the social judgment each situation asks of us.

Form

Form concerns the physical world we shape, choose, use and maintain: dress, materials, craftsmanship, objects, maintenance, and stewardship.

What the House Believes

Stewardship over consumption

Receive what is worthwhile. Understand it. Care for it. Improve it where appropriate. Pass it forward.

Cultivation over complacency

Improvement, discipline, constructive correction, knowledge, and better standards are positive goods.

Quality over status

Quality begins with intent, material, construction, usefulness, longevity, maintenance, and care—not prestige alone.

Tradition is not the destination. Wisdom is.

Ask why a practice existed, what problem it solved, what remains valuable, and how it can be carried forward intelligently.
